Protect Your PC

The other night I was sent a link to a comedic website from a friend. The site seemed harmless enough. It was just a list of some of the funniest videos to be found on Youtube. It is likely that the site owner also thinks his site is perfectly harmless, too. Unfortunately that is not the case. This site contained a virus that attaches itself to internet pages and could have then infected my computer just by me visiting the site. At least that’s what could have happened had I not been prepared. It’s times like these that I am so glad that my computer is protected. My anti-virus software detected the virus and eliminated the file before it had a chance to infect my computer at all and gave me a warning so I know not to visit that site in the future. When was the last time your anti-virus software gave you a similar warning? If your answer is, “never,” then there are two possibilities. Either you are a very safe (or very lucky) web surfer or your computer may already be infected and you don’t even know it.

Kaspersky Lab puts out a monthly list of the top 20 viruses as detected by its on-access scanner. The on-access scanner comes in Kaspersky’s anti-virus software and reports back to Kaspersky Lab when it detects and neutralizes a virus on an individual computer. In August of 2010 alone, just the top 20 viruses racked up an amazing 1,038,663 attempted infections on computers protected by Kaspersky! Does that speak for the effectiveness of the Kaspersky software? You bet it does. But more importantly it speaks to just how many threats there are out there trying to destroy your computer and all of your valuable files.

New Kaspersky PURE! Keeps your computer in pristine condition and gives you complete peace of mind.

Just think for a moment of how many viruses are out there. How many infected websites are out there? How many criminals are working on new ways to destroy your personal computer right now? There are hundreds of anti-virus programs out there on millions of PCs. As of 2008, Kaspersky was the fourth largest among them. So if Kaspersky is only fourth, and with hundreds of competitors it holds a very small percentage of the market, imagine how many threats per month are invading computers all over the world.

Should you be careful what you download from the internet? Yes. But what happens if a family member gets her email hacked and the hacker sends you some infected photos?

Should you backup your files? Yes. But what happens if the files you are backing up are already infected?

Should you be careful where you browse? Yes. But what if you are just clicking on a link that your friend sent you of a funny video you just have to watch?

Are you protected? When was the last time your anti-virus software reported a threat that it had eliminated?
