NOD32 Review

Get NOD32ESET’s NOD32 software has been one of the leaders in the industry for several years. While the “big boys” have been spending millions gaining corporate contracts and ensuring that they would have their software on all your home and work computers when you first get them, NOD32 has quietly been spending its resources developing and upgrading virus protection that is almost flawless. Imagine that! From 1998 through 2010 NOD32 is the only antivirus software that has never been caught by a virus “in the wild” (viruses that are floating around the internet) per Virus Bulletin’s testing. In fact, no other antivirus software is in ESET’s ballpark. NOD32 even ranks highly when up against viruses no one has ever seen before, handling a majority of test threats sent its way.
NOD32 is extremely light weight, taking up very little of your system’s active memory.  It is a small program and, unlike some of it’s competitors, does not have millions of files all over the place slowing down everything you might like to run.  When running NOD32 on your system the only way you’ll know it’s there is because it puts up a small picture when you boot up your system letting you know you are still protected. The only time you’ll know it’s running is when a virus begins attacking your computer. Suddenly this cool, mild themed program turns into a monster, letting you know with a big, bright red screen that it has found, shut down, and killed a virus and that you are, in fact, safe. Having had experiences with antivirus software that I always, painfully knew was running but never knew was working, NOD32 was a happy change from big business garbage to a company that was devoted to me and my PC. All this and NOD32 comes at a lower price than its competitors if you purchase 2 years up-front (antivirus software is a year-by-year purchase.)

There are a few drawbacks to NOD32. First, it doesn’t have some of the added features of Virus Emergency’s runners-up. I had also had issues with installing and using NOD32 on Windows 7 – it seemed to be slower to catch up to the operating system’s specs than some of its competitors. Finally, NOD32 has given me headaches in the past by giving “false positives” to websites that I knew were clean and by interfering with Windows’ standard downloading, causing files to appear broken and therefore unusable. Fortunately, I have found fixes and workarounds to all of these problems and they have not popped up enough for me to feel the need to take my business elsewhere.
All that to say – if what you want is to surf the web, be able to download all the music, pictures, and movies you want from anywhere you find them, and almost never have to worry about a virus, NOD32 is definitely the product for you. There is no product that guarantees you eternal safety from criminals who want to destroy your computer, but what I can tell you is that none of my machines that had NOD32 were ever once infected, and NOD32 has captured many viruses for me over the years.
