AVG Internet Security - Tough on threats.

Tough On Threats

AVG has come a long way since first being tested by Virus Bulletin in 1998. After four years of nothing but failing grades, AVG righted the ship and never looked back. These days AVG’s internet security software ranks consistently high on Virus Bulletin’s charts. AVG has always been known around the internet community as providing a great free option for people seeking antivirus help. I currently use the free version on my office computer since I only browse a few selected sites involving my work.
The free version is not why AVG is listed as a good option on Virus Emergency, however. AVG’s antivirus software has always been light-weight and fast and AVG has proven that they are never satisfied with their product in this area as well; it seems every version of AVG that is released is faster than the one before. AVG has proven many times over that it can outrun most of the pack when it comes to protecting your computer and the basic paid version comes with built-in anti-spyware, e-mail scanner, free technical support and many other features.

AVG comes with 3 different price options, adding features with each upgrade. What blew me away about the current AVG 9.0 was the added identity theft protection. What? My first response was to think they were using the words “identity theft” to mean something different than what we think, but then I saw their description. Although AVG’s identity theft does mean securing online transactions on your computer’s part (added in 8.5) it also includes access to the AVG Identity Theft Recovery Unit. This service is provided through a partnership AVG now has with Identity Guard, an identity theft protection company. What this gives you is a lot of the standard features of subscription identity theft services should your identity be stolen. In other words, what some people pay hundreds of dollars per year for, you get for $6 when you choose to purchase AVG’s Internet Security over their Antivirus and Firewall software. What?  I can still hardly believe this offer, honestly. Six dollars. Personally, I don’t mind paying for the best, which means that I’m one of the people paying hundreds of dollars per year for my identity protection and I will probably keep it that way. But if you are someone who can’t afford a lot of extra money for identity protection I would strongly recommend AVG’s Internet Security 9.0 (the full version.) Identity theft is one of the fastest growing and most damaging crimes out there and to be able to protect your computer as well as your online identity and have the professional help should your identity be stolen all in a $55 package is a deal you won’t find anywhere except at AVG.
